Dynamic Component Symbol not displaying...
-
I have been creating some very simple dynamic components. Nothing fancy, just basic product information and an URL address. When I open my component browser, I see the components that I have created but the green DC symbol is not there. I intend to upload these to the 3D warehouse but I would like for the symbol to display so people will know that this is a DC.
Any thoughts about what I am doing wrong is appreciated.
TimOne more thing. I had created another DC where I animated a drawer and a door. I opened that model and sure enough the DC symbol was displayed for the both the drawer and door but not for the overall model component. I had keyed in product info along with an URL address for the overall component. Why would the symbol display for parts of a model and not the overall component? I thought even basic product information makes the component dynamic, especially since it is entered in the same attribute window.
Thanks,

Hi Tim,
Try to run through this tutorial model. There are certain conditions that must be met for the DC symbol to appear on o model, although I would need to look up the reference in order to remember what they are.

I re-read the information on creating dynamic components and found a simple omission on my part which prevented SU from recognizing the component as dynamic. All it took was an = symbol with one of the attributes. Now I see the green DC symbol in my component window.
I uploaded the component to the warehouse yesterday. Today when I logged on, the 3D view had been added to my model but the DC symbol was not there. Will the DC symbol eventually display for the model?
Just to make sure nothing happened in the upload step, I downloaded the model and the DC symbol is still in the component window.
It could some simple omission again on my part but at the moment I can't figure this out.
Thanks,

It might have to do with HOW you uploaded it. You need to right click on the component, then choose "Save As" and save it somewhere. Then find that file and open it. Then upload it the warehouse like that. Then it will be uploaded as a DC.

It was the "Save As" step that I missed. All is working fine now.
Thanks!
