    i really need to extract the geometry from a KMZ file i have, i tried Vivality studio but for some reason it breaks the geometry up, only leaving the roofs of the buildings, turning the kmz file into a zip file only provides a kml file, so no .dae file, anyone know of a method or technique or pluggin to convert KMZ files, ive searched far and wide (without leaving my seat).

    i wouldnt be too bleak if someone was willing to convert it for me πŸ˜„

    remove the skp extention

      Hm. There's indeed no dae file in it (but this only means that it was not modelled > exported in SU) 4+ Mb for a "simple" text file however (that I get from the kml and trying to open it in Notepad ATM) is pretty big however.

      Normally you could import it in Blender and then export it in some "meaningful" format for SU but this is (probably) some other kind of file. BTW, according to the file properties (date of creation), it may have been created by the East India Company merchants first sailing to India in 1601. 😲

      Your kml file contains the data but it only seems to contain something "point-by-point" as I opened in GE.

      Where did you get it from (and what's the "history" of the file apart from Queen Elisabeth I?)

      Gai...

              let see..
              I loaded the kmz file into Globalmapper, exported it to a shape-file with the "elevation" attribute. Opened the shapefile in ArcScene, extruded from 0 to "elevation" value. Exported to VRML, imported VRML into Rhino 3D, exported to Sketchup.....

              not pretty but it works OK..
