If you are doing it commercially and on a regular basis, then SimuTerra would be a good choice.

remus if you found a quick way to create a road on a curved surface without the disadvantages of simple draping (road is not always horizontal in its cross section) please show us how!!! (I can only achieve acceptable results with lot of hard manual work and there is lot of complicated geometry involved)

            thanks

No secret really, and not a particularly good method. I just did it by turning on hidden geometry, selecting a reasonably continuous line for the road and moving it down a bit to get a reasonably flat surface, i then just ment over it with the move tool locking it vertical all the time. sorry to dissappoint 🎉

                Hello scf Members,

it seems to me that many Sketchup users would like to create realistic looking roads on a curved Terrain in Sketchup. This is also one of my interests. I started a discussion about here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=19276

I tried to construct a road with the "FollowMe and keep" plugin. First i draped a single line on the terrain and than i extruded a face along this line with the above mentioned plugin. The road is horizontal in its cross section. But the whole process is not yet satisfactory.

Attached is a rather nasty little tutorial hastily thrown togehter. Although the results are not perfect it may be an alternative method of trying to achieve the desired result. Think this will only work on relatively straight roads...
                  hopefully of some use!

                    Hi Joe,

thanks for your efforts. This methode is similar to the FollowMe and keep plugin. It is always the problem that the road follows strictly the drawn line. May be we will find a solution.

Have you tried the 1001 bit tools, if not have a look at the help/tutorial files.

I suggest drawing the road outline, push/pulling it, placing it in the desired position on the terrain, and intersecting. delete the faces and you have a road.
