Hello, i am a french student studying GIS (geographic information systems) in the university of Saint Etienne, and at the moment i'm doing a university work about 3D modelling in Geography. I want to know if some of you create this kind of models and what are your priorities...
I mean, dou you favorize very detailled models, taking the risk that your model will take a lot of time to be create, and that it will have a big size on your disk.
Or do you favorize an expeditive modellisation, which offers the possibility of making lots of models in a few time (basic or unicolor textures, approximative contours)approximative Konturen)
      there are 5 exemples :

        Hi Stephan,

To me, the poll wouldn't really fit as I do all kinds of modelling you list, depending on the model itself. Even within one particular model there may be important parts (detailed) and "background" pieces that only give some kind of context to the main piece.

If you have a look at this project (note that every "major" building there is placed correctly to the co-ordinate system so I could even upload the whole thing to Google Earth for instance), you'll see what I mean. There are "dummy" buildings that are just singe "boxes" while the churches have ribbed, Gothic vaulting even from inside.

        Gai...

I have to admit, for me it entirely depends what I want to do with the model.

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

            Salut Stephan,

For me good textures are more useful than very-accurate shapes.

About the picture showing a city (N4a) : Is it the city of Pripryat as shown in the video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R ?
