Mixed Messages With Inference Points?
-
when im using sketchup, and im using groups and components or just moving things around i get different messages depending on when, where, and how i move. for example, when im moving a componenet, and click on the end point, sometimes it will say, endpoint in group, other times end point in component, and if move it in the middle, it will say sometimes either these two options or a third, mid point in group. and lastly these two, from point, on edge of face. but what i don't understand is it looks all the same to me, it looks like its all moving in the right place. so what are the things i need to know to be precise, and why does this happen? thanx.

Hmm, I don't pay close attention to the tooltip message, but I have never noticed it say the wrong thing. That would probably just a be a bug. Theoretically, it should say component when its on a component and group when its on a group.
If it looks and feels like it working right, it probably is right.
Do you have any models that seem to show the wrong tooltips consistently?

Hi Tekkybot, hi folks.
I just made a few test with SU 7. I created a group and then a separate component.
I used the Line Tool and then the Move Tool and when I hover the cursor on an endpoint in the group, the group not being selected, I get the correct pop-up, namely "endpoint in group". I get correct pop-ups for "midpoints", "on edge", "on face" and "center point". If I do the same with the component, I also get correct pop-ups like "center point in component", etc.
I even tried nesting a component in the group and a group inside the component and the pop-ups messages are correct, identifying the entity over which I am placing the cursor. If it is the component in the group, it will correctly say "endpoint in component" for example. This works if I am inside the first level entity or completely outside it.
As Chris wrote, can you supply us with a SU file having entities that are giving wrong messages?
Just ideas.

Hmm, yes I can see how nesting them could throw it off. But it looks like you say it works as expected Jean, so thats good. I suppose an example is needed. I'll sure keep my eyes open for one.
Chris
PS I've had some great kite flying days already this year Jean, the weather is wonderful here in the San Francisco Bay area!
