Controlling issue
-
Hi guys!
My sketchup problem is shown on the image below.
since I upgraded my laptop from XP to Vista. sketchup has never worked properly on my laptop.when we draw a line, we select a start point then dragging the line to the end point we want.
here's the problem, wherever the cursor goes, a series lines and dots come out and hardly be controlled at all. Does anyone have the same problem as well? how did you sort it out??Many thanks

Hi Yiy,
This is a quite common video driver issue (I guess your card itself is okay since it used to work with XP). Try this test: go to Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings and disable hardware acceleration. If it seems to solve the issue, try to update your video driver instead of using SU with this, disabled setting since it can slow SU down with larger models.

Hi Gaieus
thanks very much.
problem solved!! however, i didn't quite get you said about updating vedio card part.... -
A video card (which supports OpenGL - a technique SU uses to display 3d) has a software called video driver (this will "run" it on you computer). This should be updated as I suspect that your Vista OS needs a different driver for the same video card from what XP needed.
At those OpenGL settings you tell SU to exploit all the powers of your video card (use HW acceleration) or not (disable it). If you don't use all powers, SU may become slower.
It's not always a big deal however (I have done considerable work on two computers whose video cards didn't have OpenGL support at all) but the one I'm using now has a nice card with an appropriate driver and I can indeed feel the difference.
