Is this sketchup model or?
-
Yes, this is a sketchup model. The scene is also conceptually of a sketchup model. All just really simple geometry. The hardest part was definitely posing these guys and I still think they look a little awkward. Again, I made the initial character within a 30 minute time limit or they would've been a lot more detailed. The concept is supposed to be a lightbulb moment powered by ruby. I think tomorrow I'll have some fun and model Rubies at Play. LOL

very cool indeed

I'm with all others... Very cool indeed..!!

I am loving every bit of it.
This is what 3D and photoreal rendering is made for. To live out your fantasy, making things you can't shoot with a real life camera. One of the coolest gallery entries on this board if you ask me.
A job well done!(A little crit: that measurement tool needs a bit more subdivisions and maybe an improved texture (the yellow part))

Thanks everyone! Your encouragement means a lot. When playing with this scene, I really understood Solo's desire to have a rigging ruby. It sure would make posing easier.
Also, it just dawned on me that I posted this while the competition voting was still underway. This was not intentional and I certainly wasn't trying to sway votes. I know Remus had a no render rule until after the competition was over, so I would understand if this disqualifies me.

So that's how a Ruby Plugin looks like. I think we got ourselves a mascot.

Depending on the author of the ruby, the color of the gem could change.
e.g Whaat's rubies = yellow gem, Fredos rubies= red, etc... -
Adam, care to share the Ruby Robot model? I'm thinking it'd be fun to have a thread where people can post how they visualize the various rubys at work.

Ditto what others said

agree completely! I love the photo-artistic renderings... heavy on the artistic. I don't get to 'play' much... but would love to look into this area of rendering more.

Really cool concept youve got there
-
Here's the skippy. It would be awesome to see what other situations you guys could put these in. Feel free to modify them any way you'd like. With everyone's collective input, we could come up with a really cool Ruby mascot! I bet you guys could come up with pretty funny concepts for Rubies day off as well.
-
Thanks Adam. I really like these guys.

Very nice.
