Is sketchup Pro 6 compatible with Windows Vista
-
Hi there,
I’ve not visited the forum for some time now, and I know that there was a discussion long time back about the poor performance of Sketchup with Windows Vista. I know that many people were having major problems and reverted to Windows XP.
I have searched the forum and cannot find any links with this discussion.
At present I use sketchup Pro 6 and work with Windows XP.
I am looking at buying my first laptop and was wondering if Vista and sketchup are now completely compatible.
If not I’ll get one with Windows XP.
Any recommendations please.
thanks in anticipation.
Alan Wood.

Hi Alan, true that long time no see...
Much of the problems were due to graphic drivers not being fully up-to-date for Vista when it was released. Most of these kind of problems have been solved by now - yet I would definitely go for XP (or at least get the lappy with a downgrading option).

Wait till (by now) experienced users of Vista chime in. Some (or many?) say it's okay.

ive never had any problems...

No problems with Vista. Both SU6 and SU7 working fine.

SU6 and vista are a perfect combo.
I don't use SU7. -

I have been using Vista Home Premium for almost a year with no problems on SU or Acad or most other software and very few driver problems. The Vista came with my new laptop - a Toshiba Satellite with a good video card and 3 gigs ram.
From what I have heard, there is more trouble if you upgrade to Vista on an older machine. Some earlier problems with programs and devices seem to have been worked out in the service pack, at least on my machine. A few older programs won't work, my Nero disk burner for example, but all the major stuff is fine.
There are a few nice features in Vista, but overall, I don't think the improvements outweigh the problems it caused many people.
