Is this possable in the free version?
-
Greetings SU community. I have been using the free verison of SU7 and hopefully will be purchasing the Pro version as soon as I can get it approved, hopefully.
Here is my problem. I need to import or create a texture from a photo in order to place it on a wall in my model.
My question. Is there a way to do this in the free version or a plug in for the free version so that I can achieve this?I have the Master collection CS3 + CS4 for editing outside of SU. I have been serching but have not found one for the free version yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Sure, go to File>Import and then change the filetype to .jpg, or whatever the filetype is. Then set the import setting to "Use As Image". Then click ok. Now click once to set the fist point of the image into the model, click again to set the the opposite corner and voi-la! Now you have a grouped face with your image placed on it. You can manipulate it like any other sketchup geometry. You can also select and explode it if you want it ungrouped.
Chris
EDIT: You can also import with "Use as Teture" and then you apply the image to an existing face in SU. This works good too, especially for images like brick that are meant to be tiled onto a surface.

Hi Kristoffer,
Well, Chris beat me (again
) but anyway, I won't delete this now:
Note that any modeling that can be done in the Pro version, can be done in the free version, too (I don1t consider editing dynamic components as "modeling" now).
Go to File > Import > and at the "File type"pulldown go to "All supported image types". Now on the right, you will have three options; import as texture, image or matched photo. The best (in your case) is to import as an image and on import, scale it properly. Then
- create a rectangular face on the wall,
- explode the image,
- right click and go to Texture > position and do nothing but hit Enter
- sample it with the Alt + Paint bucket tool (it will turn into an eyedropper)
- paint your rectangle on the wall with the sampled image
Maybe this tutorial will also add some clues.

Thank you both very much. I now feel like a total dipstick, lol. Never thought to change the file type, smacks self in forhead. My day will now go better.
Great tutorial on the picture maker, loving that.
