some months ago there was a thread somewhere here about a program that converts SketchUp models into 3D - .exe files that can be sent to clients for an interactive walk-through. can't remember what the software was called though. and can't find the thread either.

does anybody remember what the program was called?

or is there any other way to send a SketchUp model that is not editable?

Was it maybe Walkabout3D? Although I'm not sure it will make an exe file of the bundled viewer and the model.

There is eDrawings that would make such an exe file but that's not for walkthrough just orbiting around.

          thanks for the links, Gaieus.

interesting stuff. but the program I saw actually generates an exe file that, when opened, works like a computer game. you can walk through the model or choose predefined vantage points (scenes), you can adjust global settings like lighting, material transparency or brightness of the image...
if I only remembered, what it was called and where I found it 😕

            Subdo perhaps? http://www.subdo.com/Default.aspx?cont=17
Their demo file does not give its size when downloading, so you have no idea how long you need to wait...it's actually just under 10MB

            3D Figures
Were you required to walk 500 miles? Were you advised to walk 500 more?

nice one. still not what I found back then. but really close...

subdo is a bit pricey of course and therefore only makes sense, if you use it excessively.

Then it "bundles" the model scene with the executable of the viewer I guess (just like eDrawings).

I haven't tried WalkAbout yet but might give itz a shot one day (for a certain project).

                    or Quest3d? (high price!)

cool, it was Zermatt! thanks holgster.
although it doesn't work properly with my new laptop (probably have to check my graphics drivers).

well, and Quest3D is a bit mighty for most architects...
