American Flag Mapping
-
I am doing a flag for a project. Obviously I want to have it look natural, windblown etc.
Ihave used FFD, SubSmooth and UV tools for mapping. Any comments on how I can it better? Especially the mapping part?
thx,
David
EDIT . .. I added the state flag at well. I think that turned out all right. but when I rendered it the seal didn't read! WHADDUP with That!??

I'm on a flag kick here. . .This Union Jack didn't map all that bad. There's a glitch in the second image. . .Check out the width of the top center red band.

You probably used projected texture, didn't you?
-
Shouldn't I have? That's what I thought I was s'posed to do!
Also, I did a French flag last night and it worked out fine. Rather than just painting blue white red using the mat'ls pallette I projected an image. Drew up fine, but didn't render in podium. Same problem with the UTAH state flag. just a blue field. I don't get it. Why do some maps render and others don't?

Sorry to be a geek, but unless it's on a boat, it can't be called the Union Jack, anything else is just a plain old Union Flag.
Wicked model though!

Your geekness is excused. I actually kinda knew that. . .(not! ) but we cuzzins over here on this side of the pond just call it the Union Jack regardless.
thanks for the feedback Pete. .. I will check the image type. I suspected that was it.

looks like that was it. . . Thanks!

This is just too fun!

No, I mean that's what I'd've done as well. Maybe if the big wave wasn't right in the middle of the flag, it wouldn't be so apparent.
Cool game however!

It occured to me thru all of this that perhaps the most efficient way to do with is with a Face Me clipmap and call it good. although these flags are only about 250K each.
Pause and discuss. . .
-
Face me is a good idea - this way you can make sure that the wind seems to be blowing from the same direction for all the flags (should you decide to use more in a scene).
-
wind is a consideration and also. . .making these flags is just too much fun!

Thanks Urgen. You know I tried using SSB as you did but I dont get the results. when I select a rectangle and skin it. It shows a grid, but then when I apply a pressure, it asks for a selection first but doesn't maintain it or whatever and the grid disappears . .. it's all very confusing.

David, I made a tutorial for Jeff (Click Draw) a while back. Check it out and see if it helps.
