Funny but sad....

Thanks Pete; that made my day also....
it reminded me of a segment on a crazy show here in AU last year. Julian Morrow, TV presentor walks the streets of America and askes questions of similar Jay-walkers....http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=iOQLx3em7z0
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=q566ys0sqVQ
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=rKJdDYtAnIEI especialy like when the map comes out and Julian get people to mark the country they're talking about.... Australia gets the marker every time!!!

Unfortunately, there are people that ignorant, but I would say they are the exception and not the rule. I'm sure Leno went through quite a few "smart" people before he found these three, but how funny would the segment be if all three contestants could answer the questions correctly. What amazes me is that they would agree to go on TV to be made fun of, even if they are acting. I guess some people will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame.

On a second note, knowledge isn't the same as intelligence.
Some people are actually smart, but just miss common knowledge. -
True, to a degree. Yet, if one is unable to 'absorb', a widely known fact like "the US and the UK were allies during WW2", one surely isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
Like Daniel, I believe Leno's researchers must've gone out of their way to find these people. We've been seeing the same trend here in Belgium, the last decade or so. Television makers venture out to 'hunt down' the dumb, the weird, the downright annoying.
Shortly after I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, I worked as a clerk in an adult video store (ah, the virtues of having an arts degree!). Every now and again, some young tv researcher would walk in and ask whether he/she could leave a couple of flyers. "We are looking for people who are into insert perversion of choice." I loathed some of "my" customers, but I invariably told those researchers to buzz off.
TV's a great medium, but it should not be a freak show. I hardly watch any telly anymore. I've almost entirely switched to buying dvd's.

This maybe slightly different issue but here in UK there was recently report published on teaching in UK. One of the things report was saying is that 1 in 5 teachers in UK are scared of the pupils and more so of their parents. The biggest issue is that parents when told about little Joe were upset and were agressive and shouting in front of children...
Now that obviously enpowers little Joe to tell off to teacher. -

Allot of valid points...on one hand you get out of school what you put into it, but there are also some lazy educators that will pass kids just cause it makes their job easier. I have a 14 year old in high school, and it seems to me that at least at the level that she is at, if you pay attention and put in a decent amount of work you can do well in school. But as Biebel pointed out there is intelligence and then there is knowledge and also common sense. I see so many people out there that have masters degrees and have completed very high levels of education, but if there was a giant hole in the ground and you didn't tell them watch out for the giant hole, they would walk right into it.I have worked with guys in the music industry that had degrees in audio engineering but didn't know which end of the microphone the cable plugs into. Sometimes, common sense and life experience trumps higher education!

For goodness sakes Ron, you dunno when to quit do you?
Anyhow, that's from Faux news, so it's definatly staged and besides the majority of the dum-asses voted twice for your hero Bush.
tsk,tsk.
*nb, I didn't bother watching it once I saw the title and source
This Obama thing must have you up all night.
-
Quite the contrary, oh wise one. I am not unhappy with Obama and am looking forward to seeing what he can do. I support him and have confidence.
Watch the video. It's of Obama voters who don't know anything about the way our country is run. A similar survey was offered to be done on McCain voters but Zogby (I think) refused to sponser another survey. The only reason it has Fox's name on it is because you'd never see this anywhere else.
EDIT: anyway I'm just pointing out how this lack of intelligence permeates our society.

We obviously all have high opinion about human race.
The worst thing about it is that these people are the
ones that vote, and they are not a minority. We are.I was going to say this too, Mateo. These people should NOT be allowed to vote. I think Mike Lucey started a thread on this topic. This boggles the mind, doesn't it?
These people actually did vote: EDIT: This is the video without the Fox "spin":

Wow....a tiger never changes his stripes....
Nice posting Ron. That video was ridiculous...it is so obvious that it was purposefully edited to make Obama voters look stupid...I'm sure there were correct answers that got edited out. And to be totally honest I found it to be racist and offensive...from the "chanting" African sounding music to there choice of where they interviewed people it is pretty clear that the creators of this video were trying to make the point that Obama was elected by unintelligent uninformed African Americans. The only thing missing was some "Dueling Banjos" faintly playing in the background. I would never post a link to that video with my name next to it thats for sure....
I wonder what the results would have been if they interviewed some of the thousands of Obama supporters at a university? Am I supposed to think from watching this video that the McCain supporters know all the answers to those questions? I highly doubt it...And because the people they interviewed couldn't answer the questions they should loose their right to vote?
Typical holier than thou, right wing, republican blowhard bull****

There is a good reason for that...anyway, it's been aired a bit on MSNBC too: from the proper perspective, of course :`)
-
Tom, this is why I reposted the movie without the Fox link; an attempt to remove any spin or slant.
-
Ron...it is what it is without the link or any explanation: pro or con.
-
Wow, 'does she clean' (refering to the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) coming from a woman... It was all rather funny until this point.
