SU Export Crash
-
Hi all,
I have been trying to jump into the animation / rendering world with out much luck. I have 50Meg SU model with textures, and have tried to export it to 3ds (for 3DS Max V6) and KT. But the export crashes every time before the export is complete. I guess something is wrong with the drawing file? I purged and tried the fix errors tabs with no sucess. For 3ds export I tried almost every combination of export options under the options tab. Is there something I can try that might fix this? or is the fils size too big for SU? (Using SU V6 Pro) Any advice would be greatly appriciated!
Thanks and Aloha,

Hey Matte,
I just tried exporting a 43 MB file to *.3DS and got an error at 44% completion. Were you getting an error or did SketchUp crash?
Thank you.

Hi guys,
Is it a file size problem or poly count problem?
I successfully exporte a small (6-7 Mb) file but which had some more than 1.2 million edges and 300K faces. What's the statistics? And how about image sizes? (Mine was only textured as an "example" with SU basic textures for more advanced texturing in Max).

Were you exporting to a network drive? It seems to me that big exports over the network do not always work as well as they should, and lead to crashes or corrupted export files. In these cases I have several times had success by exporting to the desktop or a folder on the desktop, or a folder directly under c:\ . Also some exporters have or used to have a problem with extended characters in file or folder names, and this makes even the desktop in Finnish windows fail, as it is called "Työpöytä".

Thank MS, in Hungarian the Desktop is called "Asztal" (table) without any of our fancy characters. Also the path to the documents folder doesn't contain any of them.

Hello,
I haven't determined if its a file size or poly count problem.
My file that is having a problem is:
Size: 43 MB
Edges: 1,508,474
Faces: 51,451I'm going to try a 3DS export to C:\ and see if that changes anything.
