Still lots to do. My girlfriend says the composition is 'off'. Really can't tell anymore, as I've been staring at this for days now.
What do you guys think?
(BTW: the floor mat will be blueish carpet with boards underneath in the final version.)

Hey, this looks like a great start, I'm I guessing right that this is V-Ray?
I think that once you have some reflection on the glass it will bring in more light and add to it. -

looking good, like crazy eyes said the glass need some more work reflectiions, and maybe a different color. is you intent for the forground room to be that dark.mike d

Hey Stinky, I think your girlfriend is right, sorta: and I love it! The tension created by the mis-perception of the right perspective line (edge of the image fooling the eye into schewing it to more horizontal) is marvelous. How you resolve such a dynamic posibilities (I hope you beef it up in the process :`) will be interesting to watch! More please.

Truly, it Jack bird scares me, I feel floating alone when I ponder such.
The last you did, was gloom incarnate, I went though batch of camels and tall boy while getting very paranoid rubbing it with my ball eyes.
This one is nice.
As for composition, you Jacks are all into some strange cool ideas about such, I have to say I feel a bit out of the loop at times, but sense your putting the question into the ether, I say something very close to camera in the shadows -- cutting into frame in the lower left hand corner -- perhaps the back of a folding chair, or bit of ladder -- something that catches the smallest bit of light -- perhaps a cord running up to a very cheep clamp light hooked to a bit of 2"x4" -- something very real....

Hi Mikey! (Sorry! Couldn't resist.
) It is indeed my intent to have quite a dark foreground, though perhaps not that dark. Gotta do a couple more tests to see what works best. No pain, no gain, eh?@tomsdesk said:

It'll be interesting to me as well, as I have no idea just yet. I'm kind of stuck for the moment. Well, sort of. More trial and error lies ahead.

Yeah ... I was thinking of a cord ... No lamp, though. Maybe some creased paper, attached to the wall with needles.

Yeah, the Jack bird folded paper is the way to go -- use making tape to hook it to the wall, with awkwardly torn pieces -- perhaps a chunk of news print with a china marker "X" scribbled on it.
About the lamp -- not turned on -- just a bit of cheep reflector -- and dead bulb.
Bring the toast, and shut it down..

Thanks. Didn't take long, though. About 50 minutes on my 8 core Mac. Don't let that fool you, now. Both Crazy Eyes and Mike D noticed that the glass in the back doesn't seem all that reflective. That's Maxwell for ya. Stuff like that -subtle reflections and such - takes quite a bit of time to show up.

I think a couple of your light bulbs blew since your last render. Its now too dark for my liking and although I can see some reflection, it's too dark.
