A big departure from my 'normal' stuff, so would welcome any feedback.

Very much a WIP at the moment - a lot of buildings to be added to the low ground on the left, and a lot more painting to do.

      Anyway, first the SU:

Next the textured model in 3dsMax: (really crappy texturing, but the models are only viewed from a distance...
      Untitled-2 copy3.jpg

And the composite - the background is composed from about 8 photos which I've comp'd, with hand-painting to blend it all together.

      thanks for looking,

      Andy

Great work. Looking forward to seeing some at a closer distance too. Great comp work.

Very nice. Is it supposed to be someplace in particular?

Are you familiar with the long house in Lofoten?

Good stuff andy, although i think the roof could do with a bit more detailing. its looking a little flat at the moment.

            Great composition, as usual.

Fantastic montage Andy, you're not working for Time Team are you? πŸ˜‰

I'd say the detail of the roof was perfectly suited to the scale of the buildings in the final image, unnecessary work is unpaid work.

Quite basic compared to your usual content Andy but still nice.

Reminds me a bit of Edoras from LOTR film trilogy

                  Thanks all.
Remus - agree that the roof isn't very detailed, (in fact the whole model is pretty crappy) but at the size it appears in the final image, I think I'll get away with it πŸ˜‰ I'll be adding some hand-painted detailing in Photoshop, just to enhance it a little bit though.

Dzine - yep, a bit like Edoras - especially the location and colour-palette. I believe the designers for LOTR based Edoras on Norse culture. The background images in my piece are actually of Pen y Fan mountain, and the surrounding area - in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales, UK. Which fortunately are about 20 minutes from where I live!

                  Andy.

Anyway, a little bit of progress - distant buildings added. Still need to be blended in properly...

Looks great to me! You've created a great background as well.
