Here is a link to a YouTube video showing how we are trying to use SketchUp and sketchyphysics2 at New Mexico State University.

I wrote a Case Study and submitted it to Google, but it hasn't been loaded to their Engineering Case Study page for some reason.

The model itself is at the 3D Warehouse (search for chile cleaner).

SketchUp is not part of our regular 'business', but I am trying to find a niche for it bu modeling some of the mechanical projects that are active in our department.

I run a startup company that takes on projects within laboaratory automation.
For me the best thing would be if i could conrol the motion with my externally written application
wich would make su/sp a brilliant tool for rapid prototyping of machines.

So i belive that sp has a great potensial for businnes use. much becouse of the easey 3d enviroment and no cost makes it a great choise for startups, and smb`s if motion could be controlled by external code like the weemote does..

With a renderer it would also become a great marketing tool

I use Sketchy Physic when we install new devices. I've done scaled model of ours devices
( spectrometer and diffractometer for research and process control ). A short visit in order
to measure doors.... Then let's run a simulation ( static or dynamic). It's really an advantage
and time-saving task. ( sorry for that poor English)

On an other hand, I also make tuts for ours customers. A lot of questions are answered just
looking a running simulation.

Thanks for you input. I plan on focusing on Prototyping and utilizing SP's functions of motion to test theories. I have years of experiance in woodworking, plastics fabricating and CAD experiance. I plan on trying to pull it all together to offer a unique service. I'm pretty positive that it can work. I'll keep ya posted.

Of course, but I'm convinced that enhancements have been done in the next version of SP, sequential movements (driven when encountering switches or pseudo-sensors ) are still hard to model. But may be, one of us has already worked on such a possibility.

I build custom cabinetry and furniture in N. CA. I often use SP to give life to cabinet doors and drawers, as well as doors in the room being modeled that may interact with the proposed cabinetry or furniture. It helps with potential conflicts, and clients love it.

Hello All, especially Sean,

I am also a woodworker and would like to use SketchyPhysics and SketchUp to "prototype" various designs.

I find that building a 3D item to an exact size and being able to place it exactly where I want is a royal pain. I'm probably missing some crucial information. How do you place and size items?

I'd love to see a 2D to 3D tool for creating individual items for assembly in SketchUp - even a text (XML) to SketchUp converter (which I'm willing to code if someone gives me the skp structure).
