im guessing theyre students. Theyre the only sort of people i can think of who would have the time, boredom and lack of spousal pressure to do something like that.

Sounds like a great idea for a sketchy physics challenge. Come up with a Rube Goldberg machine. Rube Goldberg. . .Finding the most complicated way of doing the most simple task. I think MIT has a competition every year.
