If Layout 2 is the new improved version capable of basic 2D Cad functions, can anyone tell me how to display a dimension alongside a line created in layout? Basic Cad stuff I know, but I can't find it, or maybe I'm missing something?

Layout is a presentation app and not a Cad app.
Dimensions should be incorporated in your SketchUp models for display in LayOut.
Dimensioning should be done in SketchUp so that no matter the scale of your model in
LayOut, the dimensions are accurate. And, when your model's dimensions change in
SketchUp the change is reflected in LayOut.

Yes, this is it; since the idea of LO is to keep the interactivity with the SU file, everything that is related to the model (its scale and the dimensions derived from it for instance) is displayed there.

There are a lot of requests however for dimensioning in LO and I could imagine that in a later release it will be added.

          Gai...

Actually that was the first thing I was looking for myself. I was also disapointed that it wasnt included.
