Importing Shortcuts

Okay .. .Im not a newbie but there is something that has always bugged me, and I feel like a newbie for asking this cuz I don't know. When I import my preferences.dat file to another machine, a laptop say . .. my shortcuts do not overwrite the default stupid shortcuts, they are just piggybacked on. for example. . .to me "select" is "S" but when I import it's still Spacebar. Is there a setting that I don't know about for import?

If i remember correctly, it helps a lot if you change the file name to something other than the default. Ive got a feeling you might need to import them a couple of times, as well, to get them to stay put.
