Coil on path?
-
Is there a ruby or a way to make a coil follow a path? I know there are the Helix rubys but I need the helix to follow a path and coil at the same time.

Read through the whole thread if you have issues with it but I think this will do what you are asking.

O.K I spent a few days trying to make this work but nothing I have tried so far produces the effect I am after. I have found an example of what I am after, but this was made in a program I do not own. Does anyone know how to do this in sketchup? I have really tried to do this with Wikis "Follow and rotate" ruby but I cannot get that to work for me. Anyone care to try and solve this one.

Okay, kilgo, here's a step-by-step solution. The .skp file was a bit too big to upload, for reasons that will be apparent, so here's a series of still shots:

A nice one; I was sure that you come up with something impressive when I saw you'd posted.
Quick question; could you try the Pipe anolg path plugin with it? I would wonder if that runs into the twist glitch as well (I know I could try myself but am a bit lazy to play with it at the moment)

Thanks Voder!
Heres the render.

Gaieus, the result is the same using Pipe Along Path as using Follow Me: there is a conspicuous seam where the extrusion loops back into itself as a result of twisting.

Yeah, as I suspected. Unfortunately a proper follow me tool (or a plugin) seems to remain a "wish"
