      Hi 😄

Does anyone know of a way to colour a large amount of a model which isn't one face without having to select it all?

      Cheers,
      SA

You are saying "A large amount" so I guess you don't mean "all".

There are ways if you have modelled efficiently using groups and components. If not, you could just click with the paint bucket on each face you want to paint. It will activiely select and paint anything you are hovering over as you click..
But, if you have groups and components and the "default" colour is on the faces, you can just click once on the outside of the group or component on one the geometry, with the paint bucket, and it will paint all of the equivalent default colours. That is, if you clicked on a "front" face colour it will paint all front face colours in the group or component. You would do it again for all the back face colours if you wanted to.

          Hi,

          Thanks for your speedy reply.

          No, not all.

I havn't used groups or components, but what you were saying about painting and hovering seems useful.

So do I just click, and hold it down and hover over where I paint?

          Cheers,

            Hi ShipAddict, hi folks.

            Another possibility is:

            1 - Select all.

2 - Press and hold the SHIFT key to Add/Remove from the selection.

3 - Unselect items you dont want to paint.

            4 - Paint the selection.

            Just ideas.

My question is, why not? Groups and components are the single most useful time saving feature of SU. Even if I only have one of them in the model I create a component of it. If at a later stage I notice or a mistake or want to change it in some way:

              1. Insert another copy of the component
              2. Edit it, sometimes this involves scaling it up 100x
              3. Delete it
Any changes made to the copy, excluding the scaling, are reflected in the one within the model and it did not move.

See all of my SketchUp models here.
