Here is a site i found while surfin a little while back. Its got a nice variety of free realistic skies.
There are some nice jpegs, but i don't think there are 1000 like the URL implies. -

And the what I find to be the best Free HDRI's is: http://www.openfootage.net/
The only downside of them is they're usually well over 100mb, But on the upside they're released under CC 2.0.
