Guide lines will not show up

Hi there,
When I save a copy of a project (to backup) and continue to work on the copy, previously drawn guide lines will not show up anymore although the correct layers are switched on. If I want to draw new guide lines they will immediately disappear once I hit the enter key.
has anybody got the cure for this problem

This is what happens to me if I have unchecked Guides from the View menu. They reappear when I turn them on.
