High Quality YouTube Videos
-
Can anyone tell me how I can get my videos to appear on YouTube in high-quality?
I am using camtasisa v3 that was offered free awhile ago. I've been doing experiments with the capture size, bitrate, etc and can't get anything to go up as high-quality.

As people add replies to this post, I would be interested in what the best resolutions are for YouTube videos - and for other videos.

Hi Jim and Al,
I remembered this thread for a while ago - maybe you can get some ideas.I'm not sure however if it is (as easily) embeddable (as the "normal one):

Google video (as YT is integrated now) allows you to watch your videos on YT as well.

Thanks Gaius,
It looks like 320 x 240 and 640 x 480 were the defaults I was looking for.
I'll have to check out Google Video - I presume it is something different than YouTube?

I'm not sure Google's explanation helps me understand the difference:@unknownuser said:
Why would a user want to upload to Google Video versus YouTube – or Picasa for that matter, which was recently announced?
Google's vision is to enable anyone to find, upload, view and share content worldwide, and we offer a variety of platforms for users to upload a variety of content -- which includes video as well as images.
Over time, Google Video will become even more comprehensive as it evolves into a service where users can search for the world's online video content, irrespective of where it may be hosted. This is part of Google's overall goal to give users the highest quality search results possible. For example, some users who do a Google search for Martin Luther King, Jr. may want to find websites about him. Others may want to see images of him. Others may want to watch video footage.
Ultimately, we envision most user-generated and premium video content being hosted on YouTube so that it can further enhance the YouTube experience.

I think Google managed to say in 143 words what could be said in 4: There's no real difference.

I uploaded a video to Google Video and was very disappointed in the quality.
Then I read this on the Google site:

Google Video recompresses all videos into 320x240 resolution Adobe Flash files with a bitrate of 450 Kbps to ensure reliable streaming from our servers. The download resolution is 480x360 at 800 Kbps. If you upload your video in any other aspect ratio, we will apply a letterbox format to your content to fit within the 4:3 frame.

If your looking for a high quality video upload service id recommend vimeo. You can upload pretty good quality videos as standard (cant remember the exact size) and if you upgrade to a pro account (not overly expensive) you can upload HD videos.

Thanks,
I gave Vimio a try. They load up to 640 x 480 at normal resolution, and 1280 x 720 at high resolution.
I uploaded a video to: http://vimeo.com/2071816
I think it is at 640 x 480, although it seems to display at a lower resolution.
I embedded the Vimeo video link into a web page where it does display at 640 x 480:

Hi, Jim (et.al.)
Last month, there was an article in PC Magazine,...
...How to Upload High-Quality YouTube Videos
I haven't tried it myself, but the article might provide the info you need.
(It's apparent that vimeo still beats YouTube, hands down.)Taff
