Aliasing the materials and component folder over a network
-
Hello
I have just installed a very fast network and server at the office, and am considering having everyone ( 4 SU stations) using the same materials and component folder, located on the server. I have tried aliasing the remote material folder but it did not work...I could only add manually the original folder on the network and load it in SU, alas each family of material has to be opened by clicking on its folder ( no scrolling drop menu)
Is there any solutions regarding this? The idea is to always have an up to date component and materials folder on every SU computer.
thnx

I think that it doesn't work the way you want it to. I'm guessing you set the "components" location in the file options to your network drive? So it would make sense that SU would look to that folder for the components. Not so! (and I think they are doing this poorly). That path is where SU will by default save components that you make now. So to add those folders to your components browser, you need to click on the the arroy flyout in the components browser (arrow pointing to the right button). There is an option to "add library to favorites". Click on that then go choose each library you want to add. This will put it in the list of component folders. I don't know if there is a way to remove the default folders though. Maybe some way to uninstall them? Hope that helps, maybe I missed the mark entirely though,

I think you have to do the same with the materials, all rather tedious really.
