    Hi

I build houses from real photos and would like to export them to my gameengine with one texture per building (object). I use a 2048 x 2048 px JPG which contains all facade textures in one file. When I texture my building in Sketchup and then export the model in either OBJ or 3DS format the exporter shatters the texture and exports many small texture files.

If I just place the texture on the faces and positions it, it is no problem - but if I start to use any of the fixed pin actions the texture shatters. Everything looks fine in Sketchup, but the exported files don't.

Does anybody know what I am doing wrong or if there is a workaround?

    Best regards
    Klaus

      Kras,

      Welcome to SCF.

Could you please upload a small .skp example of a model with textures mapped using the one .jpg method?
I will try figure out a way of exporting for you, I assume you have the pro version with 3D export options right?

On an old wishlist for SU 7 I wanted a bake to polygon option which in this case would have solved your dilemma.

        Hi solo

Here is an example where I have only textured a small part of a building with one texture, but in the export it shatteres into about 95 different textures... and yes I have a Pro version.

          Kras.

Okay there are two zip files attached, one was done using the .skp to 'Deep Exploration' a pretty pricey app but definately the best format convertor out there.
and the other is a straight SU to .3ds export.

They both will work as you intend, the difference is I had to explode the model in SU in order to keep the textures mapped correctly.

You will notice that the SU export has decimated the original image file into many smaller ones, but keeping the UV coordinates correctly mapped, and the DE conversion maintaned the original single texture format intact and has the mapped UV's saved.
They both opened perfectly in 3DMax and Vue.

          Hope this helps.

            Hi solo

You are my new best friend in the world!!! Thank you very much! I think I will have to buy the Deep Exploration as that keeps my texture intact. I am right now downloading a trial to see if I can have the same results as you had.

By the way - do you know anything about the MaxGLSize hack - I have tried to alter my registry to be able to see textures greater than 1024 x 1024 in sketchup, but for some reason it does not work for me. Do you have any expierience with that?

I have heard about it but I do not know much about that issue, I personally try not use textures larger than 512 x 512 in SU.
