Problems with selection of a face for push/pull
-
I am trying to design a treehouse for the kids, and am running into strange issue with the push/pull tool. I have lots of framing components in the drawing, 2x4's, 4x4 etc. Sometimes when I am making a new length, I can't select the end face of a 2x4 for push/pull. It seems to select the "other" faces, even though I am on the end face. I have tried selecting from different angles with no luck. The only think that always works is to orbit around so I am inside the component looking out the end of the 2x4. Then I can select the end face and move it. Is there a selection trick I don't know about?

You cannot Push/Pull a component by just selecting a face on that component. You have to select the component first by double-clicking on it, then you'll be able to PP the face you want.

Yes, my problem is happening after I "Edit Component". I can move the mouse between the faces, the poke-e-dots will display on the "2" face or the "4" face of the 2x4, but not the end face. If I hold the mouse down and move, the tool will have selected one of the other faces. (The one that was behind it from the perpective I was using.)

You'll need to post a picture of the problem, or post the model on here.
The only thing that springs to mind is that maybe a face hasn't been created, but as you said that you can go inside the component and move the face that way suggests that's not it.

Here is the file. Try to push the 2x4 back to the only refrence line. I labeled it with the dimension.

Works perfectly normal for me. Can't really think why you're having the problem you are.

There is something that might maybe help. On a PC go to Window>Preferences>OpenGL tab and if "Use Hardware Acceleration" is turned on, then also try turning on the "Correct reversed picking driver bug". Or try turning off Hardware acceleration. Play with those settings.
If none of that works, try upgrading your video card drivers. Often glitches like this that happen only on one person's computers and not on others is due to video card drivers for some reason. Let us know if that helps,

I tried the option and restarted, but it did not work. I did try my desktop rather than my laptop, and the desktop did not have the issue. So I am assuming it is some sort of grpahics card/driver issue with my Dell laptop. (Mobile Intel 945GM Express graphics) Thanks for all the help.

You are perfectly right. Mobile Intel graphics don't work well with SU. The only thing you can do is to turn off Hardware Acceleration (Window>Preferences>OpenGL tab), but SU will be quite slow with all but the smallest models.
