      Hi all,

Sorry if this has been answered - I searched the forums with no luck.

I am new to SketchUp - didn't get much sleep last night, what a cool tool. Busy planning some changes on my house with it.

After doing SOMETHING - could be perspective or walkthrough - now I have the following issue:

As I orbit around my design it is as if there is an invisible plane that "slices" through the house, exposing inner walls like a section.

This is frustrating as I cannot see the whole design from all angles. I would like to remove it, but I cannot "see" anything there - no section line or anything. I tried restarting SketchUp with no luck.

Can anybody tell me what I have done?

      Many thanks,

      Chris, PMB, South Africa

It sounds like clipping to me.

I occurs when either youve got really big models (like 1 mile +) or youve got geometry really far from the origin.

If your modelling your house id guess it is the latter, so if you press ctrl+a to select all then deselect your house model, you should be able to press delete to get rid of any wayward geometry.

This is a clipping plane. You can fix it by clicking the zoom extents button. That is one way. If you find that you are constantly being bothered by, then you can change the field of view. It tends to be more problematic on large models, or if you zoom in and work in a tiny space for a while. Stuff like that. But generally just zooming extents will help a lot.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a clipping plane. Here is what the SU Help Centre says about it:

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum! Good to other South Africans here. You might also want to pop into the South Africa sub-forum and say "hi". Or maybe not, it seems it has been trashed together with all the other sub-forums for other countries...

OK, back to your query. It sounds like the clipping bug from your description, but I can't be 100% sure. Is it possible for you to post an image / screen capture of what it looks like. That way one can more accurately determine the cause and possible solution.

Oh dear, I see you've double posted, not really necessary on this forum.

                Hi all,

Thanks for you helpful comments - zooming to extent does take it away for a while, but if I orbit a few times it is back.

I feel like it started when I played with the camera position and perspective options. I feel that if I redrew the design it would be fine, but I would like to understand why it happened.

                Thanks,

                Chris.

Ok sorted out I think. I had the camera set to Parallel Projection, I think the default is Perspective.

In perspective mode my FOV was like 150 degrees or so, which made it hard to use. I set this back to between 30 and 35, and the clipping has disappeared - nice one Gaieus.

                  Thanks again,

                  Chris
