Texture Problem
-
Hi there,
I started modelling with SketchUp not long ago, so I am a little bit of a noobie...please forgive! My English might also be not that good, thats because I am from Germany and not used to speak (nor to write) English...
Ok, here is my problem that I already posted in a german SU Community blog...but no one knows an answer or the solution to the problem:
I modeled a little tower in my town and placed it in GE. The problem is, that during the export-process something seems to go wrong, because when I open the kmz-file some textures are totally mixed up. Go and have a look on your own: http://sketchup.google.de/3dwarehouse/details?mid=9e272450422bd6dd26178b9e2f942767
Follow the link and you will see the model (how it should look like...and how it looks like in SketchUp) on the right sight. When you download the kmz-file an place it in GE it looks totally different.
I tried different ways to solve this problem. I exportet the skp as GE file AND as a GE4 file...no improvment at all. Sometimes there where textures I never used in my model, sometimes there were textures in the wrong position...I absolutly dont know what to do. What confuses me even more is: I built a 3D model for my university some weeks(/month) ago and there all textures are working just fine (as far as I know) (here is the link: [http://sketchup.google.de/3dwarehouse/search?q=Universit%C3%A4t+augsburg&btnG=Suchen&styp=m&reps=1](http://sketchup.google.de/3dwarehouse/search?q=Universit%C3%A4t+augsburg&btnG=Suchen&styp=m&reps=1)) If you have a look at the university models don
t get confused: The guy who posted the models (GeoDiveAndy) is somekind of my teacher (who has no idea of SU at all and who didn`t help me at all, but at least my name is in the metatags ...) at university. It would be sooooo good if anyone of you guys would find a solution to my problem...thank you...
Cheers FantaH.

This is interesting. It seems that on the northern side the "rough brick" texture is simply projected in the GE model. Also another brick texture is projected in the gateway. I wonder why you have 4 different brick textures in the model (three of which is used under the roof only). I'd try this: delete all brick textures and apply only one (modified if needed) onto the places needed. Delete the image for the northern side also and re-apply that.
Allow me some time when I'm home (this crappy machine in my office has almost no video card power to navigate in GE properly).
I can also imagine that there's some glitch in the WareHouse since I've been reading complaints lately. Within the kmz file, all the needed images are there (rename it to "zip" and see within the "images" folder).
And now I'm moving this post to the SU Bugs subforum so that the SU Team can also have a look.

Hello Gaieus,
thank you for your quick reply. Today I spend a few minutes one the "I
d try this"-way. I deleted the brick textures and applied only one and I reapplied the norther image, too but...it changes nothing. Still the same problems although they changed a little bit. I tried several times and found something even more interesting: the images changed their positions...the northern image was on the east-side, the east-side image was on the south side, the south side was on west side...and so on. After I realized that your tips were not working (I really hoped they do) I tried something different: I deleted all the brick textures again and used a simple color to paint the faces...color white...then I exported the skp again and...finally the kmz looked like the skp...allthough all ex-brick-textures are white now (what sucks, too). Maybe my SketchUp or my computer or whatever seems to have a problem with big skm files...As long as I use images or simple colors as texture there is no problem, but if I use bigger textures like the brick-wall it doesn
t work out.
I am still hoping that there is a solution to my problem...this evening I am going to delete GE and SU and install them once again...maybe this will bring me any further...Ahoi, Tim.

Hm... Really weird things.
I1ve seen curious behaviour of GE sometimes so I can imagine a lot of things. I'll have a look into the model once I can get back to it at home. -
Hey...
I ve got some new information:
- Uninstall + reinstallation of GE and SU didn`t help...still the same problem.
- The problem is not only in one modell. I placed another of my models in GE and it has the same problems...here is the link: http://sketchup.google.de/3dwarehouse/details?mid=b4c27fa50d3121d7f1ec5765bf6274a8
thanks for caring...FantaH.

Hi,
I have the same problem with all my models!Have you ever resolved the problem or are you alway trying to fix it?
I have extracted the .kmz and i have seen that some texture are missing in the image folder and are note written in the texture.txt file, so I think that the error come when google sketchup is saving the model as a kmz file.
ps: i'm sorry for my english but i'm not a native-speaking english.

I have the solution!
The texture don't have to have an extension like that : .JPG but like that .jpg

Hi all.
I ve been writing with raf a few messages and it seems that the way he found is working really good. It helped me with the two models i had problems with (eventhough they have already been published on GE (without problems)), but I am working on a new model - same problems but rafs solution does not seem to work out. Maybe the next day brings light in the dark of my model textures.
Greetings
Tim.
