Funny how we all have a different perspective on colour contrast and saturation, I posted the opposite to your post earlier this week with the suggestion to desaturate the images a little.
That said it is always had to know or to be accurate with that - balancing your light, sky and colour is really what I find the hardest. Maxwell does a pretty good job at judging these and I do up the saturation just a little from that output. oh and all rendered with version 1.5.
And yes as others have said and I agree people and movement would be an improvement!

Warm words mate, thanks! Yeah those trees in the third image are a bit of a put off! As mentioned earlier they were remodelled from the xfrog public free one. I tried to trim them back to look younger and to screen less but maybe too much. I rendered this prior to playing with onyx 3d trees. I might go back and redo this image for keepsake later with Onyx trees and see if I can improve it.
In regards to grass, I've played a lot to get that right - with maxwell you can build some very complex multi layered materials that allow you to put more than one bump map - so I use one for the grass blades and one to gain a more subtle bump to the lawn.
Mate as you suggested the render times with Maxwell are an issue but the simplicity of workflow and quality that can be gain from the less techno like myself is amazing!

Hey thanks mate! Yeah I like to open a few windows (gets hot here too sometimes!) and I also pull up or leave down blinds, turm some lights on and some off! I think this all adds to gain some realism!
Must say I just checked out Silver-Shadow's Eye candy post - Now I feel like an amature!

Mate I've had no issues mapping the leaves from Onyx in maxwell studio - I exported as OBJ (this could make a difference!)!

I was just playing around zooming in on your renderings and stuff and, again, they really are great. As someone else mentioned already, your grass is really impressive, even more so zoomed in! The way you've integrated the building as it meets the grass is really great.
My favorite though is on the first couple images of the house. While I was zoomed in panning around i noticed that you'd even put in what seems to be a little weed where the brick meets the driveway in between the garage door and the entrance area! (you can just barely see this at 100%.

Thanks mate! Yeah the little things - just trying to up the realism! PS paint brush there can add those details pretty quickly! Thats one of those things though that I feel is a bugger with PR rendering it really is in the detail.
It's a shame though that a lot of detail is lost in this resolution, the maps in the scene are so detailed that if I zoomed the camera to the sofa inside you would see the stitching and seams bumped in or on the fifth image again if I zoomed the camera you would see the slots in the decking and siding screws.
Sounds like a lot of work but they are only maps so you only do this once and the component or material can be used anywhere at any zoom and still produce good results.

I certainly wish there was some tool in onyz that would map the leaves, I must say I haven't really had an in depth check to see! I'll dig!

I don't have problems neither. I just tried to ask may be I missed some texturizing tool IN onyxtree itself.

Thanks mate! To answer your question most of the designs are my own but excluding the first to which where collaborated with the client / builder. And the entertainment center which was rendered as a favour for a friend on the PushPullBar!

Did you create the final rendering FROM SU using Maxwell?
How did you do the grass? I do grass in SU using Maxwell materials and they come out all wacky!
How do you import trees generated in another program into SU for the rendering or do you create the model in SU and render using a separate program?

Yes mate pretty much all of the renderings are rendered direct from SU using maxwell!
The grass in all images is just a two BSDF layer MXM material. Layer 1 grass colour map and grass bump, layer 2 grass colour map and a bulk bump map to get some greater variance in the material.
The trees are a bit varied. In the first images they are just clips added in PhotoShop post rendering. In the townhouse render they are the Xfrog free version bought into SU as 3DS and much of the branches and foliage removed.
You will note that I tend to prefer forground trees to not be displayed in the render but set to cast shadows. I tend to like this method as it maintains the architecture as the context of the render whilst still providing a feel of vegetation being in scene!
Mate I have to be honest I'm not really seeing what you are trying to show in your posted image, which could be what you are suggesting that it just isn't working for you!

I have had NO luck with grass in my renderings.
Sorry about the attached image... it just shows that a displacement grass material applied to a flat surface does not work- it only comes out when applied to a sphere. Typically, I get grass that looks like this...
I will keep at it...and I'll have a look at Xfrog!
