Apple Mighty Mouse
-
OK, I found this nice wireless Apple mouse with a ball for the center scroll wheel, I love how it feels, the sales guy swore it would work for a PC, I get home, but it doesn't look like it'll work, no usb transmitting thingy, just the mouse.
http://www.apple.com/mightymouse/Been googling, seems like the tailed version will work on a PC, http://tinyurl.com/4ah5n9
but not the wireless .. just want to confirm this before I take it back. I sure like that ball idea for scrolling ..

I have never tried it before in-fact I dumped my mighty mouse from my mac for a 'normal' scroll mouse without nipples. However it is bluetooth so I do not see why it cannot be paired up to your PC if you have bluetooth abilities.

Thanks solo, but I don't think I have bluetooth, don't really know what that is actually.

This is bluetooth - but the history behind it is even more interesting!

won't work then.. bluetooth is just some wireless stuff.. you can't use certain peripheral devices (mice, keyboards, headsets) with it as well as sync cell phones etc.. return it..

Im not sure if its the case for all the wired mighty mice, but the one ive got at home has a really short USB cable, so might be worth picking up a USB extension cable while your at it.
Or you could get a tablet http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/

Joe:
You can easily get a Bluetooth USB plugin to add bluetooth to your machine. I don't know that you will get all of Apple's functionality when using it on a PC. They likely don't offer software to give the sideways rolling functionality.
Most Apple mice have short cords because Apple keyboards have a USB hub in them so you need only plug into the keyboard which is likely only inches away.

That's OK, I picked up a little notebook mouse today, I'll take the m mouse back.

I got an imac on my new job, with said mighty mouse. It really looks cool, but iĀ“d say itĀ“s not for everyone, or at least, not for me. The nipple thingy for scrolling is too sensitive, though itĀ“s cool to scroll sideways in preview. ItĀ“s very hard to just orbit without zooming, and the wired version has an issue with the cable getting trapped under the edge of the mouse, preventing clicking. The side buttons are cool when assigned to expose, but after a while, the issues were bigger than the advantages. Found an old logitech optical scroll mouse (the really noisy ones ), and been happier ever since. Apple, while good at designing computers and osĀ“es, really suck at designing mice. Do any of you remember the old hockey puck mouse that shipped with the first gen imacĀ“s.
ThatĀ“s just my experience though...

Just curious, is the plural of computer mouse mice?
-
I think so, solo.

Off course...just like the plural of house is hise.
-
louse / lice
-
well, itĀ“s certainly not mouses....

This question came up on another forum as well. IIRC the case was that for the computer peripheral pointing device commonly referred to as a mouse it is perfectly acceptable to refer to it as either mice or mouses in the plural.

I just switched to this mouse from a microsoft one with a click wheel. The apple mouse works great in everything except sketchup. I can't get the orbit command to work while using the follow me tool. Once the left button is depressed you can't press the center "track ball" to orbit. I think I am going to switch back unless anyone here has a solution to this (other than remapping orbit to the side button.)
