[Tutorial > Modeling] Hamburger

hi coen, im following your tutorial, but im stuck with creating the dome shape of the first bun, i can't follow how you were able to just click once the surface and the dome was created. this is where you click the edges of each halves then change the tool to follow me(not sure if its the right tool). i tried doing this but whenever i change the tool the selected edges are not selected anymore.
-
Hi cloverleaf ,
Yes they seem to be not selected but it doesn't matter. Just click on that face and it will work.
-
hi gaieus, thanks for the reply, ive tried it a couple of time using the follow me tool, but i end up doing something like this.
-
I don't even know how you could achieve that!
Were the circle and the arc face properly aligned? -
well, what i did was set it to parallel projection, set it to top view, created the circle with 1m radius, then draw a center line and last i rotated it.
after that i could not recreate the dome shape with the follow me tool.
i get different kind of shapes with the follow me tool.maybe there is something im doing wrong here?
the attached picture is the best dome that i can create but its not what i wanted.
-
You draw a centerline - that's OK (is it surely a centerline?). Than you draw an arc from the two ends of the centerline - make sure to draw the arc on the z axis othewise you can get weird results. To do this, orbit your model into a view where you see it more from the side than from top. It will inference on the z axis with a little popup.
-
im sure that i have the line on center, ive also tried your suggestion to create an arc on the z-space but i still cant produce a dome.
can you check my model? il post it here.
-
Hm... I guess that after selecting the edges, you wanted to extrude the horizontal faces, right? Doing it so I could reproduce your weird shapes.
Now do it like this:
- select the edges of the two hlaf circles on the horizontal plane only
- select the follow me tool and click on the verical plane created by the centerline and the arc.
-
the vertical plane did it! thanks gaieus!!

Bon appΓ©tit!
u forgot the Coca-Cola and some potatos and some (S)ketchup

Thanks for a helpful tutorial. What is the tool you use to deform the meshes for the cheese and lettuce? I really need something to curve surfaces like that, but I haven't been able to find it.
Thanks!

Hi Scotti,
That's the Sandbox tool. Go and have a look at it in the SU Guide (somewhere in the middle of the menus).
The From scratch and the Smoove tools were involved.
You have to enable it first from the Window (menu) Preferences > Extensions tab.

may i ask what that variation to the move cursor is?
i find it intriguing, and is clearly something i have missed!good tutorial by the way, made me very hungry.

What variation?

it just looks odd to me? maybe mine is wierd.
am i being stupid here?
i probably am...he he

No, C'mon, Pav,
It's just sooo long I don't want to watch it again
If you mean the + sign next to it, it is Copy/Move (Ctrl+Move tool)

i'm not that silly dude! he he
have worked out what it was though. i feel kinda stooooopid for saying, but basically i dropped my computer screen while in transit the other day, and i appear to have a small collection of "dead pixels" in my screen, which i somehow managed to line up with the move tool on the video.
feel like such a fool...
sorry for wasting your time!

No prob, Pav, and sorry to hear about the accident.

Thanks! It would have taken me a long time to find that. Great tools, though.
