Chopped up objects from Illustrator-Import
-
Hi,
this maybe a totally easy question, but I cannot make it...
I have a simple vector drawing in Illustrator: 1 layer, 2 objects (circle + rectangle).
I want to import these into SketchUp, so that I will have two 2-dimensional objects: 1 circle and 1 rectangle.
Finally, I want to extrude these 2 objects into one "pillar" and one "wall".No matter how I export these from Illustrator, I end up with 2 "objects" which are segmented /cut-up / chopped into many straight lines (circle) or 4 straight lines (rectangle). But they are are NOT connected anymore! Only stand-alone / independent / ungrouped lines. Therefore I cannot fill them with a texture NOR can I extrude them.
I tried to manipulate what I have in Illustrator: filled areas, paths only, no colour at all... No use.
Any help is deeply appreciated!

You need to export as a DWG from Illustrator. This will give you the lines you need. Once imported into SU, just trace over one of the line segments with the line tool and the face should fill.
You can vary the number of segments in Illustrator by simplifying, or adding, vertices. This is done in objects/paths/
And make sure your shapes are closed in Illustrator, too, to make the process easier.

cool, it works!
many thanks Chuck!
...I still wonder why it is nowhere written down in the SU help centre...
