Intro & Window Insertion Problem
-
Hi
I am an Architectural Technologist from Durban South Africa.
I have played around with SU for a number of years but nothing serious until now.
I have one problem that is driving me nuts. I am unable to get a window (from the component Library) to punch through the inner face of a wall
On Audacia.skp I overcame this by removing the inner face. I only needed exterior views. Wall thickness was 230mm.
On Easy Holidays.skp I had to resort to constructing the window in the wall. Wall thickness was 130mm. I even tried making a window component 180mm thick. No luck this just sat flat on the front face. It is quite possible that I placed the insertion point in the wrong place.
Any and all help greatfully received.
Thanks

Its a known 'bug' in SU that components can only cut through single thickness walls, i think there's a ruby script that solves the problem, to an extent: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=153&t=3848
Im not sure how well it works though, as ive never used it before. -
Hi folks.
I dont think it is a bug that SU is not able to punch through two surfaces at once. After all, how can the component be aware of the thickness of the wall. There is an infinite number of possible thicknesses.
However, a system could probably be devised to group two surface cutting components and allows, if the holes are identical and aligned, an automatic push operation to open up a coresponding hole with the side surfaces already drawn.
In the meantime, there are a few workarounds. I show 2 in the attached SU file.
Just ideas.

Hi Mike,
There is a long thread about this in the tutorial section:
