I have drawn a simple picket fence. 1 3.5" x 3.5" post on each end with 19 2.5" pickets in the middle separated by 2.5". The whole thing is 4' high. I want to make the middle picket 3' high and end up with the whole thing scalloped. So I drew an arc from the inside edge of one post to the inside of the other post with the middle being centered on the center picket 3' from the bottom.

Now, this is where I'm stumped. How do I get rid of everything ABOVE the arc line? I tried to intersect it but no joy.

If you have each picket as a group or component, you'll probably have to explode them just prior to intersection in order to make this work:
Extend lines upwards from either end of the arc until they are well clear of the top of the pickets. Then join them up so that you get a shape like a rectangle that sags along the bottom edge.
Push pull this so it covers the top of the pickets. Explode pickets. Intersect. Tidy up.

I was able to do it a little simpler (for me anyway). Just explode all of the pickets, draw the arc across them on the front surfaces. Select all pickets and the arc, intersect with model. Then push pull the top of each to the rear and the top part disappears.

May all your dimensions be the sum of their total.

Oh yeah, I do the 3d intersects often, cabriol legs and the sort. Only way to do some things.

Wow, you didn't have to make it look so obvious. I needed to think in 3d more. But now I have a further challenge, and to be sure I haven't tried much yet to attain it.

I want to put a cap across the top of all the pickets and ending at the posts. I want it to be rounded on top and wider then the depth of each picket (.75")so that if I route a dado in the bottom (which is flat) it will sit right on top of the pickets. I can make the cap, but I can't see how to do it in an arch.

Sounds like a job for the Follow Me tool.
