RE: A "how to" video in sketchup
No sawdust, and that saw is pretty sharp by the looks of things!

RE: A "how to" video in sketchup
Here is my second attempt, it makes you a little less sea sick!
Made the video in sketchup, then used Wax 2.0 to add in the logo.

Yea, I think you are right, easy to get carried away on the first try. I will do some more professional ones in the next week or two

A "how to" video in sketchup
Hey,
I just saw the Keyframes animation plugin in the CatchUp Edition4 news letter!
http://regularpolygon.orgI posted it in the woodworking section since I have made a video on how to fit a winder staircase, I am really impressed with this plugin!
Here's the video on youtube:
http://youtu.be/rgcKj0yBI8kI think its pretty good for a first attempt, although when moveing a component and the camera, it can make you feel a little seasick!
Cheers,

RE: Oak Bow fronted staircase with joinery modeled.
Some pics of it in our shop... sorry about the guy posing!

RE: Oak Bow fronted staircase with joinery modeled.
yea the regs can be a headache
There are at least 3 pieces of software that I know of that carry the building codes for the uk - compass stair, staircon and alphastair.

RE: Oak Bow fronted staircase with joinery modeled.
Yep, to code, Of course you would make it shallower/bigger given enough room.
The only way that the bottom step would be a trip hazard is if there were a walkway/corridor on the right hand side of the staircase.
We have other software specific to making stairs, but for some jobs we use sketchup to get a decent visulisation of the stairs.
we cut everything we can on CNC Routers, for assembly in our shop, we do not do any site fitting work however, so we do not often see the finished product although I'm sure we will see some photos of this in a month or so.

RE: Oak Bow fronted staircase with joinery modeled.
The stringers will be in oak. (I just use white for some reason in my models!)
the glass will be clear. The bottom 3 steps have been manufactured, the main parts of the staircase have been manufactured, just need to assemble it now. will be sure to get some photos later today/tomorrow.
I use 10mm Oak faced MDF for the risers, with MDF formers behind. the risers have saw cuts in the back, in order to allow it to bend.

Oak Bow fronted staircase with joinery modeled.
Hey,
Just a quick one, I just finished a model for a staircase we are making, most of the joinery is modeled.
3d warehouse Link here http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=dc88bcefb0c5d3be7b1616c6941a08f6
Everything will be made in american white oak, with Bow fronted treads (the bottom step is huge!) The balustrade is 10mm Toughened glass.
The staircase is currently in construction in our shop, so I will hopefully get some photos soon too!

RE: Mint 10(Ubuntu10.10), sketchyphysics, sketchup and wine 1.2
Well, they did't work (Hadn't noticed that!) But I just went to preferences, and hit reset all on the short cuts, and they work now.
The return key still doesn't work on the console!! I guess you don't have this problem? its weird that even the virtual keyboard won't work.
Thanks,

RE: Mint 10(Ubuntu10.10), sketchyphysics, sketchup and wine 1.2
hey, Just followed your guide, Thanks a lot! Its real good to get webdialogues working.
Just wondered if you have the same problem as me: When I open the ruby console, I can type away, but return the return button dosent work! so I cant execute anything im testing!
It even does the same when using a virtual keyboard. It works ok in notepad/other apps under wine, so just wondered if im the only one haveing this problem.
Thanks,

RE: Manipulate a ruby from command line?

RE: Manipulate a ruby from command line?
ah yes,
I guess I could insert a line into the ruby on the fly... basically a variable with the relevent string.
Ok, getting somewhere now!
1 more thing, I assume I could automate a save operation too?
thanks,
Tom.

RE: Manipulate a ruby from command line?
you guys are very helpful.
Jim, do you know if you could also send through a variable with the switch, like so:
Sketchup.exe -RubyStartup "C:\Scripts\My Script.rb" -variable

RE: Manipulate a ruby from command line?
hmm, I could do with a "hired gun" to get this sorted for me. do you guys know of anywhere I might be able to find someone?
Thanks,
Tom.

Manipulate a ruby from command line?
Hey, just wondered if there was any way I could launch sketchup as follows: sketchup.exe -rubyname "string"
essentially, I want a ruby script take the string, do some automated modelling based on what's in that string, and save the file... think this is possible?
Thanks,
Tom
