SU V Mondo?...no contest?
-
I keep saying to myself I must look further into Mondo...particularly when I see/read articles like this
http://www.cgarchitect.com/upclose/article1_JO.aspI would really like someone [who knows what they are talking about:)] to tell my why I, or any other SU user, shouldn't simply make Mondo my/their principal 3D modeler/renderer!.

You mean Modo right?

Yep...am I that ignorant [uninformed]?

Thanks for the link by the way, it's artists like him that inspire me to go further, try harder. I use Modo for some modelling, unfortunately I have not really got comfortable with it as SU still has the nicest, instant gratification flow IMO. After SU Modo is definately the best app out there for modelling, however there is a learning curve that I do not feel justified to take the time to master while I already have a fantastic app (SU) that works well for me, if only it had better tools for organic modelling however.

Peter, you obviously know a lot more about Mondo than me but it does seem to be the complete package....3D modeler with fantastic organic capabilities and what seems to be a great, fast inbuit renderer.
And from another perspective....3 or 4 years ago SU was out there in the innovation stakes...if not cutting edge at least creating lots of interest.
Right now, if I was looking to buy my first 3D app. I think I would pocket a free SU and spend my hard earned on Mondo.

In all fairness yes you are right, it is an awesome product, an all in one app that if used correctly is amazing. I have faith that with SU Version 7 we will get some organic modelling tools and with Podium V2 (which will be a serious contender to the thrown of renderers) built into the SU UI, we will have an all in one app that will certainly be easier than Modo and render with more ease, simpler and with all the bells and whistles.
I hope somebody in Boulder is watching...those organic tools are important guys.

I've looked at Modo in the past but found it a bit daunting after using Sketchup and didn't have the time to look at it any more detail. I might test the new version again when they get round to making a free demo available, as the renders look great. I have to say though that the projects in the link could all be done very easily in Sketchup, there was no organic modelling involved. Personally speaking I can hardly think of a single project where I needed to do 'organic' modelling. It's talked about a lot as a shortcoming of Sketchup, but for those involved in architecture/urban design, organic modelling is rarely required unless you're Frank Gehry!
Having said that there is a modeller called MOI which is meant to be easy to use for curvy stuff which might be worth a trial: http://moi3d.com/index.htm
