What import settings to use to get it 'clean' in Sketchup. How to setup clipmaps for the leaves etc....

I can see the benefits for people that want to add a nice tree in their renderings of Sketchup models. The same goes for adding 3d people or 3d cars in scenes.

Learning things from one another is one of the ingredients of the glue that holds a community like this together.

I fully agree with you regarding the above, Kwistenbiebel... However, the thing is, that I don't import the Xfrog trees directly into SU... πŸ˜‰
I haven't even dared trying, because of the high poly count, but I would assume that it will be more or less impossible to orbit the SU model... πŸ˜‰

I add trees, scrub and grass directly in KT... πŸ˜„
Doesn't work with current official version, but works excellent and very easy with next release which we hope to be able to release this month... πŸ˜‰

      Cheers

        strange thread...
So i use sketchup for make "dummy"(like some people make low-poly dummy in 3dsmax or silo for future improvement in mudbox, zbrush)... look at name of programm - Sketch-UP

So @Last dev.team don't want work at high-polygonal techincs - there are their rights.... ❗

And all post-work i will make in Cinema4D(or 3dsmax), autocad, i can: smooth models using nurbs(some plug-ins), xrog-imports, rendering(use maxwell, fry and ect) organic models...

And i think Max G. made his models in poser, using interposer(special cinema4d's plug-in, exchange data between c4d and poser)

Actually Coen, you are wrong. The textured cars are not original FF models...certainly...we offer them under licence from another company. They were imported into SU and tweaked by Allister.
However, the Roman figures of mine were most certainly done in Sketchup...how else could I keep them that low-poly?

            Hey Alan,

What Roman figures? Could you point me there?
I'm not a FF subscriber for most of the stuff there is more contemporary than what I'd need but I might become a convert... πŸ˜’

Gai, check Coen's post on the page prior to this one. Here is a link. http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?p=11925#p11925

This is an interesting discussion...and quite relevant, I think, to these forums in general. But specific to this "rendering" forum: not so much. For me, rendering techniques, hints and tips, is the subject of this forum, and, of course, their use on sketchup exports...not sketchup specifically. Sure, if there was no use of the info to users of our fav program, then fine, I see the point.

Wouldn't it be grand for me if we had a couple of accomplished watercolorists posting their wet-work occasionally to suggest image techniques to help my fax-wet efforts.

No Coen, there are not "plenty" of models that aren't SketchUp meshes. There are those couple of dozen cars...that's about it. And I've only put the "about" in just in case there is some individual models somewhere that I don't know about.

I might add that I wouldn't be this picky if you hadn't seen your way to wading into another thread with some other "facts" about Form Fonts.

Gai, I've only had the time to do a few variations of a man in a simple tunic yet. I am planning on some female characters, both pleb and pat, as well as other male figures in toga, pallium, paenula and military. I just haven't had the time to do them yet, but I'm working on them...in SKETCHUP. See attached. A few very low poly statues probably wouldn't hurt, either.

Coen, I'm always glad to hear your opinions...and personally think, as others have said here, that your original intentions for these forums are good know, and expressing them keeps us grounded and focused. The trouble you feel you get into doing so is regretable and shouldn't dissuade you in the least...as you certainly haven't the history of forcing anything on us.

Another forum...I hope not! But if things get out of hand that is an option I suppose.

                      Tom

I use a tablet for sketching and I have been playing with water color finishes for my doodles, however they have zilch to do with SU and thus no place here to post them.
Do you know another venue for me to post them as i could use your help achieving a water color result similar to yours.

Pete, no...this is the only place I go (maybe part of the reason I'm less stringent in my attitudes about what is appropriate here :`) But, I do know that this place (and the one before it) is where I learned as much as I know concerning rendering, presentation, and such. Your specific example does not at all seem out of place here. We are a bunch of SU fanatics sharing our brain's beef and brevity, and, as with beauty, the use of it all is in the eye of the beholder.

If someone asks a question about a problem with an autocad drawing should I first ask if it will be used in SU before sharing my knowledge? So why does a rendering tech have to first be similarly vetted? The answers to the DWC questions you might ask about your non-SU sketches obviously have relevance to SU exports as well. I just don't see the problem. (I do sometimes wonder if my watercolors should be placed in the render gallery instead of the sketchup gallery, even though the focus is obviously PR rendering programs...? But I fear they would be lost there.)

This gallery we're in is the venue I would suggest is perfectly proper...my two cents. (The corner bar would be my second choice.)

My opinion is that discussions around any part of your work flow that has SketchUp as a component, could be useful to other users and therefore relevant. Perhaps a new forum category for help with parts of your work flow that are outside of SketchUp would be good...? I certainly would be interested in learning about how some folks coordinate different software packages to create their final product.

                          Just a thought.

                          Cheers,

well in my opinion this very thread is testimonial for Google people. please develop more organic modelling tools and improve further current tools. or else we will have lots and lots of arguments like these in every forums dedicated to Sketchup. πŸŽ‰ πŸŽ‰
