I'm a bit out of touch with SketchUp and Ruby these days.

Is there a script around that will allow me to select a face then align it either to the xy, xz or yz planes?

      TIA

Hey, don't feel bad. I've spent hours writing a script, only to learn myself I had just reproduced functionality that was 2 clicks away already.

Um, excuse me guys, but I don't think the two requests were the same at all.

In the case of the first request (the referenced thread) the guy was asking for a script to align the camera to a given plane (actually vice-versa, but I think that's what he meant) and that's what the right-mouse-click menu pick does.

But in the present case, the request was to align a designated plane to one of the three normal planes (xy, xz or yz). That sounds like it actually wants to rotate the plane itself--no mention of camera orientation at all.

Peter, that didn't answer your question, did it? Am I missing something here?

OK, here's the workflow to create unfolded sheetmetal parts -

                1. create first end of a transition
                2. create second end of transition
                3. use skin.rb to join the ends
                4. delete end faces and tweak surfaces as necessary
                5. use JF_unfold.rb to create a flat pattern
                6. align flat pattern to xy, xz or yz planes
                7. perspective off, select appropriate view, export DXF for profile cutting.

Will play around with the Align feature later.
