this is an image from the development stage of a project I entered in a national design competition for a town center in eastern brasil (2006). it is plain SU. later on we did renders in 3DS and fotoshop.

what is being shown is the town hall, to the left (the yellow box sticking out of it is the mayor's office) and one of the admin bldgs in front. the bldgs are basically steel and glass.

      to be continued.

        Edson,

I cannot really see what's on top of the "admins building" and whether it is really poking out over the street with full of plants?
Or just trees whose trunks I cannot see for some reason? (They cannot be behind the building, can they?)

Could you post some more views, please?

        Gai...

          hi gaieus,

perhaps better than to explain you anything about the project is to direct you to two places where you can find many other images: my fotolog (http://www.fotolog.com/edsonmahfuz/ - on the left, look it up on recent photos posted in august and september 2006) and my website (http://www.mahfuz.arq.br/ - click on portfolio-->institutional-->hortolandia.

anyway, the thing you ask about is a kind of marquee with vegetation climbing on it. it hovers over a pedestrian square and it is intended to give shade to it. I am sure the other illustrations I directed you to above will give you a clearer idea.

however, do not hesitate to ask me about any questions you might have.

          best regards.

Ah, I saw the other photos, too. Nice project, indeed!
Then, as I suspected, that was some overhang with florals. Fine idea (especially at a sunny and hot place!)

Maybe just one more question; why does the mayor have a yellow box sticking out of the building?

              hi gaieus,

thanks. well, there is a tradition in brazilian architecture of providing a spot for people like mayors, governors and the like to speak from above to the people. a little like the pulpits in churches. in administrative buildings it tends to be a balcony, like this one, which faces the new square. the yellow was a way to call attention to it, but it would probably end up being some more discreet color.

do make the best of what is left of the weekend.

                Ah, I see.
After all, we also have a balcony of the town hall (though that's a 100-year-old building - obviously with a different architectural approach) though not at the mayors office...
