...is there a way to do this? I also would like to make SU6 be the associated program for dbl clicking .skp...?

      Hey all,

I've moved back to doing most of my work in 5 (until they fix a couple of things they broke making 6) but use a couple of the new things in 6, so I'm getting tired of doing saveas and changing the version. And since most of you guys are posting 6 models, I usually have to open 6 before I can download.

Anyway to change the defaults...I can't find it?
      Thank, Tom.

        Hey Tom,
Nope and nope. As far as I know there is no way to default-save as V5 and the only way to change association is to open V6. As a Beta tester, long used to having multiple versions on my system, the standard way of shifting association is to simply open the relevant version from it's icon. So you'll need to open and close V6 to dbl-click other people's V6 skp files, then do the same to V5 to get back to your own work.

hi Tom...this should be posted in the ruby forum... it was actually one of the many questions i never remember to ask. in my case i prefer modelling with 5 and just use 6 for sketch render or photomatch..

all i could think of (on a pc): ended up placing two shortcuts in my 'send to' menu (right click menu), v5 and v6 - i find that the easiest after google mixed it all up,,,,,

Hi Tom, what are the things that are keeping you from happiness in SketchUp 6?

I have ways of prioritizing issues... 😉

            Cheers,

              (Oh..."that" CraigD :`)

Hi Craig, I know you do, thanks...but sounded like it's been settled for SU6: sketchy edges will shine through transparencies for the forseeable future. So, since I'm heavy into the png tree thing (and if not that, partially transparent faces) why carry the extra interface burdon of styles if I can't use sketchy edges (which I like very much and life is now too short to put myself in daily "Three's Company" unrequinted tempta/frustra/situation).

It's okay though, I'm banging out 3d text and matchin' models into photos without a hitch (program, that is, I'm still pretty hitchy). Just got used to these features in autocad working between releases...engineers almost never upgrade, smart fellas!

              Best, Tom.

                Well, you have

                • UI.savepanel: just a save panel, nothing more
                • Model#save: just saving models without prompting the user
With these methods I do not see a way to do that.

Ah yes, Tom, I am aware of the edges showing through alpha pings. I entered that bug in our database actually! Yeah, it's a tricky one, I hear...

Man, it's always hard when one person's bug is another person's daily workflow. I empathize. I will add some weight to the bug. That is part of my "special purpose".. 😉
