Thanks to all for the feedback. I will look into this, Dave.

Well, I have already come up with a way to fix this, so the next version will have this fix, not complex shapes. It should be out pretty fast though.
-
very useful skript,thanks!
-
this is getting REALLY nice. Soon it will be as useful as the LOFT tool from Rhino3D.

Just came here and downloaded the last version of your script.
From what I see for now, it seems to be a very useful tool for me.
Thanks a lot, Darrel!
Keep up the good work!Dan

So as I was implementing this fix, I found it very difficult to navigate through my options. And as this fix would add another option to the script I decided that I would get rid of the options box altogether. Fully explaining exactly what I am doing would be hard, so here's just the effects that you will get in the next version:
- Different GUI, will be explained in a tutorial I will make.
- Auto smoothing made cinchy for me to add, it will probably be included in this update.
- Multiple sides made very easy for me to add.
- Complex shapes made easier to for me add.
And thanks for all the encouragement !

The Holiday season is here, there's places to go and things to do, there are more bugs to squish in the script than anticipated... I think you get the idea - there might be a while before the next version, maybe it'll be a Christmas present to you all.
-
I can foresee this Christmas as a very plesent one.
New Skin.rb, (allegedly) a new Kerky version, maybe some gingerbread houses and last, but not least, hopefully some good marks in your vocabulary classes... -
Mustn't forget a new Sketchy Physics version, I'm almost addicted to that one.
-
Well, I'm finding myself forced to enable multiple sides in this version.
-
OK - both wishes included!
-
I'm very pleased with what I just did. If you looked at the code for the last version you would have seen a huge 57 line method "connect_rails" that was where all the action happened. Well I just redid that method, making it only 16 lines, adding some functionality to it, and removed some bugs all at once. I'm all . Just wait until it comes out, I think this is when it becomes nice .

Elegance in programming is next to godliness.

Nice work! Thanks.
-
So I now have this thing working quite well, but as it is getting close to Christmas I think that I will wait until Christmas to let out the next version, which will hopefully be the final version.
-
Well, it's the night before when I hoped to have this script done, but I only have a beta version. Tomorrow is packed and the next day we go to the grandparents house. I don't have a tutorial ready yet, and I won't until I bring out the final version, so you will have to figure out the new GUI on your own. But anyway, Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all!
PS. The clean selection operation currently occasionally locks sketchup up - save before using it!

I've only played around with skin direct and so far so good. Nice job! I noticed that if the selected curves (edges) are inside a group, that the resulting surfaces are placed OUTSIDE of that group. I like this because this maintains the properties of the original curves (ie., they don't get subdivided).
Is there anyway to allow orbiting or panning while the "query" dialogs are on screen?

Oh is it really like that? I didn't even notice! Realy cool feature (and Darrel, DON'T fix this thinking it's a bug (if you think it is)!
If anyone wants to put the resulting mesh back to the group, he/she can cut/paste in place within the group but keeping the original entity gives a way better advantage. -
Thanks Darrel for all your hard work creating this script.
I hope Santa brings you something nice.Regards, Ross

Has skin ruby been updated to do a smooth mesh?
