      I have a question for anyone who uses other modeling programs; do you model in real world units (feet, inches/metric), and at full size, in those other programs?

      I recently acquired VUE, and when importing some trees, some came in at very odd sizes. When I mentioned it in their forum, and wondered why they weren't modeled at the correct size to begin with, the answers I got were to the effect that size is relative in all modeling programs. That seems illogical to me - who wants to waste time having to resize objects all the time?

        It is pretty much a requirement to model in real scale in Revit. Otherwise your dimensions would not be correct.
        It seems illogical why anyone would even attempt to model anything without a scale reference. Unless it is artwork.

          Thats what I thought. My impression from the VUE forum was a lot of users think of it as an illustrative tool, and they adjust things 'til it "looks good". I guess I am just too anal retentive. Now please excuse me....I have to adjust my co-workers drawings; they're off by 1/64 of an inch.

            I export my models sometimes to Vue6.
            What I do is:
            -export in obj-format (with options units in meters)
            -import object in Vue with 'manual resizing' of 10
            I have my units in Vue setup in meters

            If you're working with inches I guess a similar approach will work.

            How I figured it out was just setting up a cube in Vue 6m6m6m(default) and then trial and error import.

              yeah...i think it has to do with converting metric to feet/inches... i think it interprets the decimaled number wrong... or the original modeller did ๐Ÿ˜• i've had this problem with sketchup components occasionally as well..

                I haven't had any problems importing my SU models; so far I've used the units incorporated in the object file. To date haven't had any probs (but just started using VUE, so who knows). My problem has been with trees I acquired from them; the walnut tree appears correct, the fir tree comes in the size of a bonzai, and the Japanese Maples appear to be sized for Jack to climb up to the giant with.

                  If you're using Vue 5 or previous, it's native units are feet so make sure you export from SU as OBJ, set to feet. Vue 6 uses metres.... go figure! The weirdest thing is that Vue ever had feet as it's native unit since it is made by French developers and France adopted the metric system in 1791!

                  Do you mean trees you bought from Cornucopia or the ones bundled with the software. Vue's quality control is CRAP- loads of their bundled components (to use the SU term) are not to scale. ๐Ÿ˜’

                    Thanks for the reply, Jackson. I am using Vue 6 Esprit - I cannot find anywhere where it defines units - I think that is a limitation of esprit. I've decided to upgrade to the Infinite version (early Christmas present). Besides some extras, it has the option to use imperial units, and to import SU files directly. The problem I had was with some trees purchased through cornucopia3d. They were no where near being close to what they should have been. My logical brain just doesn't understand creating something so far out of scale (and they were SolidGrowth trees, so they had to have used the same program to create them).
