AI-Driven 2D Layout Automation: Is Anyone Successfully Generating Shop Drawings from 3D Models Yet?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been watching a lot of recent videos demonstrating AI models (like GPT-6 Astra, and Claude) driving 3D modeling directly in SketchUp via MCP connections.
I’m far from an AI expert, but as someone who produces daily drawings for a cabinet maker, I’m curious about how this will impact our workflow. While I’m not particularly eager to jump on the automated 3D modeling train just yet, what I haven't seen naturally demonstrated is the automation from a completed 3D model to a finished, client-ready 2D layout.
Since I have to submit all my drawings to designers and architects for review, corrections, and signatures, producing these layouts is the one part of my process I’d love to automate.
Has anyone here attempted—or successfully built—a workflow where AI handles the entire layout generation process from a 3D model? I'd love to hear your thoughts or see what tools you're experimenting with.
