[Plugin] 2 new plugins at the EW
-
Hi all,
Just a quick note to inform you that 2 of my plugins are now online at the EW:Numbering Texts (this one was first published here this summer):
https://extensions.sketchup.com/fr/content/numbering-text
ShadowInfo Note:

Hope they are useful to you

Informative!

@Juju (and everybody),
The tool is activated via the Tools menu, under "Numbered Texts Sequence"
There's a help button in the dialog for details on how to use. -
Thank you for the useful extensions Didier!
The ShadowInfo Note is useful, thanks.
Numbering Text is the sort of thing SketchUp has been missing. This sort of extension something that I would love to see in Layout, as that is where I do annotations, dimensions, etc. Is it activated from the SketchUp menus? I didn't see a button created as with ShadowInfo Note?
A customizable labeling extension would be a real plus in SketchUp, something that will also work on groups, something that I can choose the various headings to (pehaps a TXT file template?), with an information field that is custom entered under each section of the headings, something that toggle different LOD's (think BIM levels) and can auto populate information when labelling tools are used in either SketchUp or Layout. Maybe even link a document or URL (I know you have an extension for linking URL's).

Didier, here is a TXT file with a probable draft/mock-up of how something like this could look.

@Juju,
I'm afraid I'm not understanding all you said , but I see an interesting idea there.- something that toggle different LOD's: you mean that the labels could be changed when the user chooses a particular LOD ?
- auto populate information when labelling tools are used : what do you mean ? (sorry for my bad english...)

Hi Didier, I'm rather happy you find it interesting, your extensions always were good and of late seems to be, IMHO, next level.
Auto populate, for documentation purposes in SU (& LO, since LO reads the info from SU model): I want to leverage the labeling tools in SU & LO, currently they only seem to work with components and having something that will do this (imbed information that is custom added and be read by SU & LO for labeling purposes) with groups (or raw geometry & linework, but not so much a need just to keep options open). So, depending on the LOD a project/model is at, I want to toggle the level of specification / description that is shown when labeling.
Turning absolutely everything you want to label into components gets the components browser rather messy, apart from the fact that I've read that it now seems having many components doesn't really relieve the SU slowdown problem (maybe even the contrary), but that's another matter.
I would like to customize the various headings, say using a TXT file reference, and then have entry fields to each of these various headings. This can, of course, be under the same label, being able to toggle which labels are shown (and which not) using LOD master toggle would be great.
In short, this is to get SU closer to BIM type of usage (official BIM standards compliance is probably another beast by itself as they're still working on international agreed standards as far as I know), at least streamlining within a small office usage. SU's IFC compatibility is somewhat behind (IFC 2x3, even if you load a new definition set it doesn't seem to stick), even though Trimble is a signatory, doesn't make sense. There are some extensions available to assist with BIM labeling (built-in classifier also see IFC Manager) but they're not very friendly and entering custom data doesn't seem to be an option (the problem there could be behind the keyboard though, but I don't get it or find it useful for regular workflow expediency).
Of course, if there was an option to link a specification (TXT file?) that could appear when labeling this would also help when changing specifications throughout a project without having to manually go and change every instance where a certain specification was used.
I hope this is a little clearer? If not, ask away.

@Juju,
Yes it's (almost) clear for me now. Such an idea might be worthwhile exploring further, as time permits
