Very bent wood
-
Another intriguing model based on a piece on the 1stdibs.com web site. It's the "Maria" coffee table, by a young designer named Victor Aleman. I'm still not sure I have the curves right; I modeled them with one of Fredo6's lofting apps. The tricky part was the lower of the two components; that took several tries.
Enjoy.

.... and immediately I began to think "how did he do it?!" - No, I don't think about it but but rather do what you recommend: I enjoy it! marvellous ! -
Thanks, gentlemen.
I used the Skinning loft app from Fredo6. Began with a hexagon that I pulled to the height of the table (height and diameter were the only known dimensions; I guessed at everything else). That allowed me to create skewed faces on which I drew the path for the loft to make the top face. Then I offset the path 3/4 inch for the bottom face. Rinse and repeat for the lower section. Repeat again when the first attempt doesn't look right. And again and again. It's easier to explain than to do.
Best,

"very bent wood" is massive understatement ! Great result

Awesome!
Now, has this actually been built? Or is it like a three-pronged blivit?
Just asking.
Chris
I see it has, after a bit of searching, so nevermind.
However the image on the site (the one you posted) looks like a render.

I haven't thought about the blivit since I stopped reading Mad Magazine every month. Wonder if it could be modeled in SketchUp--not just the edges, but the faces, too.
Best,
