DWG / DXF import into LO2017 / LO2016

Since the API for LO was made available (November 2015 IIRC) and it being possible to write "extensions" for LO I have not seen a single implementation, apart from a ruby script (by SketchUp) to export all pages from SU to LO (which, in my opinion, doesn't really count), I was hoping to see a few at least.
One shortcoming of LO that would really be super helpful is if you could import DWG / DXF into LO without going through SU. If you go through SU, then you lose a lot of information. Ideally I would like to import the DWG / DXF created by another consultant and be able to overlay that with drawings and do some checking.
I see that you can find some free C/C++ code to read DWG / DXF files, I have no idea how to judge how good / bad it is as I can't program my way out of a brown paper bag the size of your hand, but I would imagine that utilizing such code means that part of the battle would be won in the creation of an extension that could import DWG/DXF files into LO.
Unless there is another program one could use to do this, preferably low cost and definitely perpetual licence based, if you know of / use such a thing this may solve the problem then. However, ideally I would prefer pulling DWG/DXF files into LO.

Importing DWG/DXF into Layout as well as other vector formats has been in the wishlist for some time.
It's really useful for that workflow you specify which is a really useful workflow.
I also overlay DWG files on top of my models but I do it in SU though. I use a section cut face scene to do that and it usually works well. I don't get annotations or texts though, and that is, of course annoying but the worst thing is I don't have linestyles so I can overlay consultants files and read correctly what's on roof or under the floor. I circumvent that using other workflows and it still works though.
Maybe, while you don't have DWG import on Layout, you can consider it.
