gehry bentwood chair.pngThat bentwood chair by Frank Gehry proved to be both easier and harder to model than I thought. It consists of a small number of components. But all those components consist entirely of weird angles and curves that took time to align.
FWIW, the original, made by Knoll International, is made of 3/16 in. thick laminations of maple held together with urea adhesive.
      Enjoy.

            Thanks, all.
I'll bet that, if you sat in the real chair, it would creak and groan like a roomful of arthritic old geezers. All those interwoven lattices have to make a ton of noise.

Cool chair and nice work on the modelling.

Looks like it would be a fussy one to build. Do you know if the curves were dry-laminated or steam-bent? (trying to imagine how flexible a 3/16 strip of maple would be)

                Dear db11
                Thank you for the compliment.
From what I read on the Internet, the pieces for the chair are glued-up laminations; I guess they stacked layers of thick veneer until they reached 3/16 in. thickness, and bent the pieces around a form. Lots of urea adhesive. Glad I'm not the one inhaling those fumes.
