Here's a model based on a piece for sale on the 1stdibs web site. Hans Wegner, a noted Danish designer, created the original in the 1960s; it's made of oak. The piece is nearly 6 feet long and so should seat six, maybe eight. The joinery is fairly simple--short stretchers set into notches in the legs, and long stretchers fit into shallow mortises in the legs. The Trim and Keep plug-in made the modeling easy.

Very nice. I'm not a fan of the short stretchers under the table top.

Do you think the long stretchers under the top would be notched as deeply as you have it or would they be halving joints with half the notch depth in each part?

Trim and Keep is almost indispensable, isn't it?

          Thank you, Dave.
Those short stretchers do look as if they would poke dinner guests in the stomach. But hey, I just model 'em.
You're probably right that the short and long stretchers join with a half-lap joint rather than the deep cutouts that I modeled in the long stretcher.
