My son has a fondness for Japanese design, and my wife found a plan for a rice-paper lamp online. It was originally published in American Woodworker magazine in 1993. It entailed some fairly complex joinery in small pieces of wood. So I simplified the joints and shrank the piece overall. It's 20 in. high and 8 1/2 in. square. Now I have something buildable. Probably in maple.

Thanks, Dave. Unless something distracts me or my son, we'll make the lamp sometime in October. Just don't ask which year.
